Young Palestinian Leaders Face Two Battles: Liberation and Democratization

As emerging political leaders, Palestinian youth are waging a battle on two fronts'national liberation from an Israeli occupation and the establishment of a democratic Palestinian state. Efforts on the latter have been violently interrupted by Israel's continued occupation of Palestinian territory. However, young Palestinian professionals are determined to achieve both goals. The aspirations of the new generation of leaders and the reality of life under occupation were explained by Ahmad Salem, legal officer for the Arab Thought Forum, Nader Rahil, area development program manager, Hania Bitar, general director of the Palestinian Association for Leadership and Rights Activation, and Maha Abu-Shamma, coordinator of public relations for the Palestinian Agricultural Relief Committees during a 14 November 2003 Palestine Center Briefing.
